The 16th annual Joey Guest Memorial Poker Run will benefit 6-month-old John Ray Elinor, who faces ongoing medical needs related to myelomeningocele, the most serious form of spina bifida, and hydrocephalus.

John is the son of Justin and Kelsey Elinor. He was born with myelomeningocele, a condition in which part of the spinal cord is exposed at birth. The condition can cause severe nerve damage and paralysis and often requires extensive lifelong medical care.
He also has hydrocephalus, a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain that can place harmful pressure on brain tissue. John underwent surgery May 1 to have a shunt placed to reduce the fluid buildup. The device will remain in place for life.
John is currently receiving occupational therapy and is expected to begin physical therapy soon. His future care is expected to include pediatric care, neurosurgery, urological care and continued physical and occupational therapy.
The annual poker run is organized by the Joey Guest Memorial Foundation, which was formed after the 2011 death of Joey W. Guest. The foundation has spent the past 15 years helping families facing medical hardships, unexpected loss and other difficult circumstances. Organizers say the event has raised more than $181,000 since its beginning.
This year’s event will bring riders and supporters together to help John and his family as they navigate the long-term care and expenses connected to his condition.
The foundation is currently seeking $250 sponsors for the poker run. Sponsors will receive recognition on social media, event signage and public acknowledgment during and after the event.
Current sponsors include Walters Weakley County Amusement Company, B&R Machine and Gear Company, Rolling Smoke Catering & Events, Monograms & More, Smith & Nanny, Tate Family Foods, the Joey Guest Family and H&O Tool & Die.
Those interested in becoming a sponsor may contact Kenny Park at 731-514-5057.

The Joey Guest Memorial Foundation will also host a whole smoked chicken dinner fundraiser June 25. Pickup will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Hawks Nest. Each $40 dinner includes one whole smoked chicken, two sides, four rolls and a choice of green beans, pasta salad or roasted baby potatoes.

Pre-orders close June 20. To order, contact Kenneth Park at 731-514-5057 or Makayla Miller at 731-223-0223.
