Although she often explores brighter subjects today, Bishop says she has always enjoyed darker, gothic-inspired themes. Rather than adding color after completing the underpainting, she chose to leave the piece in its monochromatic state because she loved the depth and contrast it achieved. She hopes to revisit the concept someday by creating a similar piece and completing it in full color.
